Club Background

Ivanhoe Men’s Social Golf Club is an active social golfing group who play every Saturday (rain, hail or shine) at ‘Royal’ Ivanhoe Golf Course in Melbourne, Victoria, AUSTRALIA.

We have been active since 1986 and have approximately 40 members. Our Calendar is very active and includes Stableford, Par, Stroke and occasional novelty events as well as our key major championships :-

  • Stuart Clarke Memorial Trophy (Two week Aggregate Stableford Competition) named posthumously for one of our most popular Club Presidents.
  • Fred Howe Winter Cup. (Two week Aggregate Stableford Competition) named after our most senior founder member.
  • David Ford Autumn Cup (Two week Aggregate Par Competition) name after another of our founder members.
  • Vin O’Meara Christmas Cup (Two Week Aggregate Stroke Competition) named posthumously after our dear old friend and President during the 80’s and early 90’s.

We have a major trip up to the Murray River for a golfing weekend every year.

We run a slightly modified handicapping system which squeezes the best out of all players and produce a Weekly Handicap Sheet with running championship points (Players score varying numbers of points for placing first to fifth) which accumulate through to the end of the year and the player with the highest number of points is awarded the Club Championship.  There is also a Seniors Championship for our older players that operates on a similar basis with points awarded for first to third.

As if that wasn’t enough we also run a match play competition with 32 qualifiers playing sudden death matches in two streams to get our Match Play Champion for the year.

All this hyperactivity is washed down with a few drinks at each of our major competitions and a hearty barbecue.  At the end of the year we celebrate with a Champion of Champion Event (also named for Stuart Clarke) for all Major, Monthly Medal, Matchplay and Championship winners.  We cap the day off with our trophy presentation and a slap-up Christmas Dinner.
