Results for 25th June Stableford Round

Perfect conditions continue at the Mecca of Golf. An ever evolving course, combined with ideal local rules. Preferred Lies!!! May they never leave. This Saturday we saw the in the form members stake their claims for this years championship. Barring our well deserved winner Richard Hall(40), all points earners were in the top nine on the Championship table! It’s cracking up to be a fantastic race to trophy.

Richard Hall’s fine form in recent weeks has finally paid dividends, shooting a very respectable 80 for 40 points. After third, and second finishes in the fortnight prior it was only ever a matter of time before the eight points were his. The win takes Richard to 22 championship points, and defiantly still in the hunt. Look out leaders. Keep up the form Richard.

Second place this week went to kAzim Akdag, albeit with a huge handicap deduction recently he is still managing to play to par or better. kAzim’s goal of becoming a single figure golfer was almost realised with his 38 point round on the weekend. Leaving him perilously close, now to play of 9.5. Being last months Medal winner, he stands a good chance to succeed this week.

Have to feel a little sorry for David Rees(37), whose 72 off the stick only earns third place. Great golf David, unfortunately the handicap becomes even tighter. Oliver Gross(36), Andrew Pepsicola(33), and Mo Sabih(33) made up the remaining point winners for the week, putting a new edge on our leaderboard. Well played gentleman.

Some people seem to have all the luck.. But in Stephen O’Sullivan’s case, it appears the more you play the luckier he becomes.

This happy occasion was after an Eagle on the 17th. Looking for a tee shot that was first assumed long, his ball was found inside the fence. Sos took his trusty lob wedge, and as expected claimed the nest(hope they were the Steel Eagles). Congratulations mate, rare achievement, and should be celebrated.

Quarter final Match play results:

Bennanan Akdag def Tony Mifsud 2 up

Oliver Gross def Craig Sharp 4 & 3

Quarter finals need to be played by 30 July, but given a two week Major this month and a Medal carefull scheduling is in order. Well done to Ben, and Oliver progressing into the semi finals.

Ball hole was eaten up this week, with a pearler from Craig Sharp, while Chris Priems was loveing the extra coin for the weekend.

This photo has been sent in anonymously, with the question.

“Who stole Sideshow Bob’s shoes?”

I have an idea.. Apparently he 4 putted multiple times last weekend!!

Results for 18th June Par Round

Yes. Same photo. Same Result! A very happy Mo sabih Again taking the honours well clear of the field, demolishing Chris Priems’s 2011 Matchplay dreams along the way.

Was only three weeks ago when Mo played his first round match. Not only did he win comfortably, he claimed the eight championship points with a +3 Par round. If a book was run on this years Matchplay, Mo Sabih would have to be odds on! Suggest not to play him on a Par day…

Contary to the weather forecastors(who all should be on a bonus system), perfect playing conditions graced our cherished track. Albiet a tad soft underground, preferred lies, and the ever increasing quality of the greens suggested quality rounds were there for the taking. As it turned out, going proved very difficult with 95% of members carding -2 or worse. Only Mo Sabih(+4), and Jan Siemon(+1) were able to beat par this week.

A few different ways to play our course  presented golfers this week, with interesting tees, and even more challenging pin positions. None more so than the 14th(ranked 17), which proved extreamly tough giving up only four halves or better for the day!

Second round Matchplay has been completed, bring on the Quarters. Results as follows:

Damian Lee def Mike Mann 4&2

Mo Sabih def Chris Priems 4&2

Well done to all who have progressed.

Ball hole won by Targe Mifsud, who was only just shorter than Harry Bughen’s(both birdied). The cash went to the smiling Mrs Tony Mifsud who was taken out to dinner.

Results for 11th June Stableford Round

YES! Winners are grinners…

Gordon Hill(41) came through with the goods this weekend, giving it everything to hold  out to a fast finishing Richard Hall(40), a deserved second, and  still 4 points ahead of third! Gordon’s 77 of the stick consisted of 8 par’s, and a birdie. Great golf. I believe the belief for Gordon’s round started early. In the car park. Gordon expressed some delight in recent web postings, and realised that  one would have to win to be up in lights. So here you are Gordo, up on the World Wide for everyone to see. Focus on the prize, belive in yourself, and you too can achieve.

Kazim Akdag(78) was the last of three members that were able to play to par. Given Kasim’s latest handicap deduction to 10, he has shown that single figures is on the way. Richard Hall(81) has every right to feel a little hard done by, beating the rest of the field by four points, and still coming up short. Richard lays claim to shot of the day with an approach to the second, three wood knocked twelve-foot past the pin!

The two remaining Matchplay games proved to be easy games for the ones that attended, with walkovers to Damien Lee, and Oliver Gross. Quarter Finals commence this weekend, if your game. Next Round has to be completed latest 23rd July.

Paul Anderson has joined the chosen at Ivanhoe, by submitting his third card this week. Have seen Paul swing a club, that combined with a generous handicapp i expect to see him taking championship points for a while.

Ball hole went to Kezim Akdeg, while the money jackpotted!! Roll Up, Roll Up(please contact pro shop if not expected).

Results for 4th June Monthly Medal

Another month… Another Medal… Run, and Won… Fantastic day for golf. Lovely winters morning, little breeze and a warm sun, prefered lies, not much ever goes wrong for this select bunch at Ovanhoe.

Today we witnessed the start of times to come…

Since joining the Ivanhoe golf club as a tare-away young teenager, kaziM Akdag has enthralled us all with his raw capabilities, and potential. We have all enjoyed his good rounds, and shockers on his constant rise to become a serious golfer. June Medal demonstrated how talent, persistence, and enjoyment of this game can pay off. kaziM’s 76 of the stick for 63 net was more than good enough for the silverware, and a hard deduction. Bringing his handicap to 10.1, down by seven shots from this time last year! Well played kazIm, and good luck on achieving single figure in the future.

Andrew Blight’s(84) good form continues with a handy 65 net, earning him top points in the seniors championship, as well as keeping him well in contention for the main prize. Great golf Blighty. Targe Mifsud(84), Mehmet Akdag(82), and Andrew Petricola(72) all carding very respectable 68 netts jointly taking third positions.

Next weeks Stableford round is last chance to play second round Match play games, so if yet to play make sure you tee up your opposition. In regards to the Seniors Championship table posted on this very website, please dis-regard the bottom table.

Ball hole this week went to Mehmet Akdag, and the cash to be burnt by Gordon Hill.
